A Message from the General Manager

Greetings friends of WVPT! The House Appropriations Subcommittee that sets public media funding levels passed a draft bill. We have both great news and bad news.

On July 19, 2017, the House Appropriations Committee approved vital public media funding. Thanks to the outreach of public media supporters like you, the bill provided full funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which distributes seed funding to your local station, WVPT and other stations throughout the country. Full funding was also provided for Ready To Learn, which supports the creation of highly-researched, proven-effective educational content for children.

However, the congressional debate on public media funding will continue in the fall. And there will be more opportunities to voice your support for full funding. Please send a message to your friends asking for their help today. Everyone that enjoys Nature, Nova, Antiques Roadshow, The PBS News Hour, Virginia Tonight and the WVPT Saturday Sillies needs to let their voice be heard. Encourage your friends and neighbors to support WVPT Public Media telling your story in our community. Everyone can contact their specific lawmakers, sign up for email alerts, and learn why the federal investment in public media is essential. Find out more about the campaign at www.protectmypublicmedia.org.
Thank you!
